Gun Editions is an independent, source-led index built to preserve the release history of limited-run firearms, distributor exclusives, collector editions, and specialty ammunition.
What belongs in the index
Gun Editions catalogs fixed production runs, numbered series, commemorative releases, special factory configurations, manufacturer collaborations, distributor and retailer exclusives, time-limited factory releases, and specialty ammunition whose product identity or release history is useful to preserve.
An item does not enter the archive merely because a reseller calls it rare. The record needs a distinct, traceable identity and a source trail strong enough to explain why it belongs.
How a record is sourced
Manufacturer and commissioning-distributor pages are preferred. Dated press releases, official catalogs, archived program pages, and reliable dealer materials can fill gaps when the original page is gone. Each record keeps its source link visible so a reader can inspect the trail.
Source quality is not the same as completeness. A primary source may omit production quantity or sold-out timing. In those cases, Gun Editions preserves the verified facts and labels the rest rather than constructing an estimate.
What each status means
- Announced
- The release has been made public, but current availability has not yet been documented.
- Available
- The product is documented as a current release. This is not a promise of live inventory at a specific dealer.
- Sold out
- A reliable dated source documents that the original release or allocation was no longer available.
- Discontinued
- The manufacturer or another authoritative source documents that the product is no longer produced.
- Archive
- The release is retained for historical research, but a stronger current availability or discontinuation claim cannot be made.
How sell-through is calculated
Exact sell-through requires two documented endpoints: when the release became available and when it sold out. If only one endpoint exists, the archive does not invent the other. Estimates, when clearly supported, remain labeled as estimates.
Corrections and industry participation
Manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and collectors can submit factual corrections, missing primary sources, product imagery, and release history through the industry inquiry desk. Commercial relationships do not purchase a status, production claim, or editorial conclusion.
What Gun Editions is not
Gun Editions is not a firearm or ammunition dealer, broker, marketplace, transfer service, or eligibility authority. It does not accept orders, deposits, or purchase money. The site is a research catalog and release tracker.
